Abbie Hoffman (1936-1989): a radical of the 1960s, who co-founded the Yippies with Jerry Rubin in 1968. The Yippies combined radical politics with a culture that rejected many traditional aspects of society. Their political positions included demands for an end to racism and the Vietnam War, and opposition to capitalism. To spread their political message, they performed zany stunts like burning money, nominating a pig for president, and holding nude "be-ins," which effectively captured mass media attention.

Abbie was one of the orginal radical culture jammers of the 60s. He was anti-capitalism, anti-materialism, and anti-consumerism. Buy staging violent and semi-violent pranks and protests, Abbie attracted major attention on TV, radio and print media. He used these mediums that were the hallmarks of consumer America against themselves to spread his message.
