A couple weeks ago, a small group of people and I started a kind of club. A few times a month we'll be attending a new bar, the first one starting with the letter A, the next B, and so on until we end up at Zanzibar's Liquor Lounge or some similar Z place for our 26th event. Beyond the name, the only other rule is that the venue must be a place to which the majority of the group hasn't been.
The kickoff meeting took place on a Tuesday after work at the Avenue Tavern on Broadway. Overall, we thought this bar was good. Nice space, great bar food and a pretty chill crowd. However, they didn't have a single drink special, which seemed strange for a weeknight, and our waitress was all testy, serving up my pulled pork sandwich will a bit too much attitude. Here's a numerical breakdown of our A bar (5 best, 1 worst):
Atmosphere: 3.5
Food: 3.5
Drinks: 1.5
Staff: 2
Intangibles (cleanliness, music, whether or the staff gave me crap about looking under 21, etc): 3
Next up, Bar on Buena, review to be posted soon.
