I'd forgotten about one of the perks of working downtown: the free stuff. During busy walking traffic hours, people in brightly-colored promo t-shirts hawk all kinds of schwag to passing downtown workers. Today it was two packs of Raspberry Wyler's Light, a "healthy" version of Kool-Aid. I've picked up new brands and flavors of gum probably half a dozen times, vitamin water, fitness water, caffeine water, breath mints, breath strips, breakfast snack mix, and countless menus and coupons. The big item last week was an 8-hour hot pack: there was one for lower back aches and another for menstrual pain relief. They had a big bin of them, and in my haste I accidentally grabbed the woman pack. So, I had to do a quick 180 through hustling commuters to exchange it for the non-female version.
Generally, the goods are unexciting. Still, my breath is fresh, I'm well-hydrated and I have absolutely no menstrual nor lower back pain. Thank you, schwag-hawkers.
Hey Eric,
This has nothing to do with your posting--although I'm glad those menstrual cramps have quieted down. I'll be in town for a week starting tomorrow. Will call you when I get in.
Hi Eric!
It's my first time visiting your weblog, and I've stayed up until 1:24 am reading the archives. Chalk it up to missing Chicago, missing old friends, or just plain enchancement with your prose. Anyway, I like what I'm reading (you've done a great job balancing content), and will continue to come back for more. Thanks!
Hope you're well,
Eulynn
P.S. I'm officially endorsing An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy, by Robert Dallek. Fascinating stuff about JFK, especially the revelations about his extreme illness. I think you'd like it.
