I guess I have been gone for quite some time now. A quick recap:
1. Went to California for work a few weeks ago. The weather was lousy, but the green mountains around San Jose were gorgeous, and it was fun to see signs for places I'd read about recently. The most striking things, though, were first the gas prices ($2.50/gallon at some stations!) and then the desolate former tech company parking lots. Vast spaces once filled with leased BMW Z3s and Audi TTs have now been vacant for months.
2. I spent a fantastic weekend in Minnesota visiting fam and friends. A highlight: a group of drunk middle-aged men and women making a spectacle at a hip Minneapolis restaurant. They were in the middle of a pub crawl, were all wearing bright red t-shirts, and one guy for some reason had a pocked full of drinking straws.
3. Two recent engagements: a very close friend from college, and a very close friend's little sister. Yikes.
4. This is dorky, but I've been thinking a lot lately about making the switch. Anyone care to weigh in?
5. Euchre league has started up again. Marc and I, as Team Spencer Tweedy, are poised to bust loose at the Schoolyard Tavern on Wednesday nights.
6. I recently finished a fantastic novel that Alison recommended. I wouldn't call it great literature, but it is a great story that pulls you in quickly and keeps you engrossed for the entire 400+ pages.
I think Mac has an AMAZING marketing scheme going on:
Step 1) Get an attractive (jenie porshe, yowsa!) and diverse pool of folks.
Step 2) Have them talk like real people.
Step 3) Record them and edit carefully (using mac systems, of course).
Step 4) Realize that *normal* folks aren't enough and recruit big names - Tony Hawk (for the punks and youth) and Yo Yo Ma (for the sophisticated).
Step 5) Wait for the suckers to bite on the bait.

I have macs both at work and home. My mac at work was built in 1997, it still runs fast and furiously. It can download or install just about anything. Did I mention its six years old? My mom has a six year old computer at home in the closet, do you know why its in the closet? Because its obsolete.
Before I took my current job, I hated macs - now my life is better. Just last night I downloaded Itunes 4, with its music store. I downloaded the new Beck CD for 9.99. I didn't have to go to the store and put up with people. Did I mention I only paid 9.99 for it? It would be $15 at Best Buy or more at a real music shop.
