I don't think anyone has ever called me "graceful" or even "highly coordinated." Sure, I've played sports since I was about five (tee-ball where people on both teams cheered when anyone hit the ball further than 8 feet) and I've got a few athletic-related trophies on my bookshelf (ignore that the majority are for bowling when I was between 9 and 12 years old). But in general, Apollo Anton Ono need not be threatened by my athletic prowess.

Beetles, however, beware.

I was in my kitchen this evening when a huge beetle scurried out from under a small rug. He stopped, and I quickly covered him with a large drinking glass. Pretty proud of my quick hands, I turned to get a paper plate to slide underneath the bug while simultaneously knocking over the glass with my heal. Not so slick. Then, in a burst of beetle speed, he hustled away from me. I leapt over him, blocking his path with one foot, and with the other formed a "V" to enclose him a bit more. As the beetle turned 180 degrees to make a break for the back door, I did a little hop on top of the bug, effectively ending the game. All this doesn't sound that impressive, but the fancy footwork happened in the span of a few seconds, which made it a kind of beetle-stomping jig.

Comments:

Eric, I think you should talk to Dan and see if you can get him to write "Beetle-stomping jig" for you. I think it could be quite inspirational for him and ultimately very catchy.
