This is a really big deal. The gist of the New York Times article is that an Australian businessman downloaded some content from an American web site. Because the article was available in his country (web URLs can be accessed everywhere), he argues that it is subject to their libel laws, not just those of the United States. The case was tried in Australia and Dow Jones, the publisher of the content, was forced to remove the article. This is big for anyone publishing to the web because it sets a precedent for all web content being subject to all international copyright and libel laws.

So, be careful next time you upload something - it may piss off someone in Fiji.
